We have almost no time left. To avoid the worst impacts of global warming on the world's poor and on ourselves, we have just a few years to take major action, maybe less than ten, as asserted by NASA's James Hansen and others. And given the momentum built into our system, the task before us is very, very tall indeed.

There is but one path before us now, and there is but one person missing from that path: you. The government commitment we need to implement the technology we already have in the short time remaining will only come if we take action.

We need nothing short of a social and economic revolution in this country. The very lifeblood of our world -- energy -- must be altered forever. And history shows that change of this revolutionary sort almost never begins with the people at the top. No, this is not how it happens. The average person has to demand action first. We have to raise our voices. Or, as Frederick Douglass famously said so many years ago, "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."

What we need is a grassroots movement as broad and wide as the nation itself, where every person is a potential recruit because climate change affects every person.

Why should we wait even one more day for clean energy? Why, why, why? We don't have a day to wait . We can't accommodate those who caution slowness and gradualism. The stakes are too high and the truth couldn't be clearer. We need the revolution now. We must demand it right now.
