My name is Ted Glick. I live in Bloomfield, N.J. I am 57 years old. I work as the National Coordinator of the U.S. Climate Emergency Council.

Paul Burman Statement Before Sentencing, 12/12/06
My name is Paul Burman; I am 24 years old. I am from Arlington, Virginia, and I work as an unpaid intern with the Chesapeake Climate Action Network in Takoma Park, Maryland.
A month and a half ago I climbed up on a ledge at the NOAA building to sit there and protest the suppression of scientific information by the politically appointed heads of the organization. I sat on that ledge, 25 feet above the ground, on a cold, blustery day for four hours, with the hope that my voice of dissent and outrage would be heard over this administration’s subversive actions that have cast doubt on the scientific reality of global warming. |

When I was out on that ledge my two feet may not have been on the ground, but my head was most certainly not in the clouds. Global warming is real – the time to act is now.”

Dec. 12, 2006 -- Two activists who climbed onto a ledge 25 feet over the main entrance to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Silver Spring, Md. were sentenced today for their action.
Paul Burman, 24, and Ted Glick 57, were arrested by police on October 23rd four hours after they had unfurled a banner over the NOAA entrance which read, “Bush: Let NOAA Tell the Truth!” For close to a year media reports have disclosed a policy of political censorship at NOAA by Bush top-level political appointees of scientists whose research showed a connection between global warming and more frequent and destructive extreme weather events like hurricanes and droughts.

Scientists Say Findings Were Suppressed

Inspectors general at two agencies have begun an investigation into whether the Bush administration has suppressed government scientists' research on global warming, officials at NASA and the Commerce Department confirmed yesterday.
Prompted by a request this fall by 14 Democratic senators, the IGs are examining whether political appointees have prevented climate researchers at NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration from conveying their findings to the public. |
